I spent 8-10hours a day taking photos of 300 overly excited and extremely energetic children and the rest of my time was spent looking after them. It was very hard work which lasted in total just 9 weeks.

On visiting day, the parents come to visit their children (yes, an extremely busy and important day) where they bring them enough food to feed them for a whole year!! I took family portraits for the day down by the lake and whilst doing so I got to meet the parents of the children I had grown to care for. All the parents I had the privilege to meet, thanked me for “my amazing photographs” and  expressed how my ability to capture the emotions of their children resulted in a photograph they would cherish forever.

This of course was wonderful to hear. I have always been told since I started this job that the one thing that makes my photographs special is the way I am able to capture the emotions in the moment.

Sometimes, when you are doing something so often it becomes so natural
that you forget how much skill and effort is actually required.
Hearing such compliments regarding my photographs, even from the most
random of people – such as the camp doctor who one day made it out of
his way to come to my office and congratulate me – makes me realise
how much I enjoy doing what I do.

Knowing how happy I can make someone through a simple photograph showing their true reflections makes the long hours editing and organising all worth while.
I received wonderful feedback from the directors of the camp and they
invited me back next summer, however, summer weddings in Lanzarote are
my favourite time of year so I have politely declined the offer in
order to make your special day the best day it could be.
