Australia became attractive to me once I graduated from university in the UK. I loved the idea of living in a big city for a change, yet a place that was still close enough to the beach to keep my Lanzarote ‘island-life’ self content. Sydney was the perfect place; an incredibly busy and exciting city, surrounded by over 100 beaches, as close as a 5 minute train ride away.

I began working for one of Sydney’s top wedding photography companies, who have won many awards for their photographs and in 2018 were named ‘Best Photographer of NSW’.

The first wedding I attended in Sydney was a complete contrast to the weddings I have worked at on the island of Lanzarote, and in the UK.  There was a lobster and oyster bar as a ‘welcome’ canape – so you can only imagine what the rest of the wedding was like! Working at weddings in a large international city, opened my eyes to multiple cultures, traditions and I am forever grateful for the invaluable experience. I have witnessed smashing of plates, ‘bidding’ for the bride the morning of the wedding (it’s not real), mothers of the bride and groom drinking shots before their choreographed dance in front of the wedding guests. Large drums being played, people jumping into pools – the lot.

I worked at around 15-20 weddings, all of which were very different, meaning I had to adapt my shooting style to tailor each of my clients needs. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and my photography skills have grown significantly after working under such a talented team of professional photographers.
